MYSURU: The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has successfully acquired 838 acres for the Phase II expansion of the Kellamballi-Badanaguppe Industrial Area in Chamarajanagar district.

Initially, KIADB had notified 1,189 acres for acquisition. The majority of landowners have received compensation, with the remainder to follow once legal disputes are resolved.

Officials have indicated that development has commenced on part of the acquired land for the creation of industrial plots.

With Phase I largely occupied, the government is intensifying its expansion efforts to attract more investors to the region. The initiative was originally launched by former Chamarajanagar district minister HS Mahadevprasad to entice large industries.

“KIADB has finalized the acquisition of 838 acres from the 1,189 acres, and compensation has been distributed to most landowners. Remaining compensation will be handled once legal disputes are settled,” said Nagahanumaiah, KIADB’s special land acquisition officer.

He also mentioned that development work is underway to establish industrial infrastructure.

“The expansion of the industrial area not only promotes industrial activities but also creates jobs. The government must expedite this process,” stated Jayasimha, president of the Chamarajanagar Small Scale Industrialists Association (CHASSIA). He emphasized its positive impact on the local economy and quality of life, urging the government to pursue additional industrial expansion initiatives in the border district.
