PUNE: During the civic body’s general meeting on Monday, a proposal was approved to initiate the draft development plan (DP) for 23 regions merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2021.
The proposal also designated city engineer Aniruddha Pavaskar as the town planning officer tasked with overseeing the DP. This measure received unanimous support from corporators, who urged the administration to expedite the DP preparation.
The formation of the DP for these 23 merged areas has encountered various technical hurdles over the past five years. An initial DP drafted by the PMRDA was canceled by the state government for multiple reasons.
Last year, the state government appointed the PMC as the planning authority for the merged areas, prompting the civic body to commence work on a new DP.
In a statement to TOI, Pavaskar noted that creating the DP involves multiple steps. “The process will kick off with an announcement of the intent to prepare a DP, followed by necessary surveys. Key studies will include land use surveys, population trend analyses, housing assessments, and socio-economic surveys,” he explained.
“The PMC will reference details from the draft DP created by the PMDRDA. A committee of seven members will be established to address suggestions and objections regarding the draft DP. Additionally, the civic body intends to form a dedicated DP cell to oversee all matters related to the DP,” he added.
