BICHOLIM: The protest against a large housing project in Karapur reached its 78th day on Sunday, with locals vowing to continue until the project is abandoned. Residents claim that the project breaches environmental regulations.
Under the banner of Karapur Gramastha Ekvoticho Aawaz, villagers are staging a sit-in near the Shri Shantadurga Temple.
Women involved in the protest expressed their determination to persevere as long as needed.
Gauresh Ghadi, president of the Karapur Biodiversity Management Committee, stated that the villagers initiated a tree-planting campaign on Sunday in areas where project officials reportedly cleared vegetation. He noted that a peacock was spotted on Sunday, expressing optimism that wildlife would return as the ecosystem is rehabilitated.
