Lucknow Body Implements New Fire Safety Rules for Building Plans

LUCKNOW: Following a tragic fire incident in Aliganj, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has mandated that all building owners submit a notarized fire safety affidavit before obtaining approval for their building plans.

Previously, only large establishments needed a no objection certificate (NOC) from the fire safety department for map approval. Buildings not exceeding 15 meters in height and with an area of up to 500 square meters were exempt from this requirement.

However, under the new regulations, owners of these smaller buildings are now required to file affidavits certifying fire safety compliance for map approval. The only exception applies to single-storey residential units up to 4 meters in height.

LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar stated that this initiative aims to enhance fire safety compliance across the city, including in buildings where a fire department NOC was previously not necessary.

As part of the updated system, applicants must provide a notarized affidavit confirming adherence to fire safety regulations. The LDA will maintain a dedicated register for these affidavits and will submit weekly reports to the authority’s secretary.

Inspection teams led by zonal officers will evaluate fire safety measures, the usage of basements, and parking facilities while acquiring compliance affidavits from existing building owners. The authority will enforce strict penalties against buildings constructed without approved plans, illegal basement usage, and violations of fire safety norms.
