CHANDIGARH: On Monday, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, distributed sanction letters to 31 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), emphasizing the Centre’s dedication to providing permanent housing for all eligible low-income families.
While addressing a PMAY-U 2.0 event at the Karnal Municipal Corporation, the minister stated that home ownership is essential for dignity, security, and a better tomorrow. He assured that welfare schemes are designed to ensure that benefits reach every eligible individual.
The PMAY-U 2.0 initiative, launched on September 1, 2024, targets permanent housing for economically weaker and qualified urban families. The minister highlighted that the Centre and the Haryana government are collaborating on welfare programs to enhance the living standards of impoverished households.
He also mentioned that the beneficiary selection process has been fully digitized and made transparent to guarantee that assistance is directed exclusively to eligible applicants. Beneficiaries were encouraged to complete the construction of their homes promptly and to utilize the financial aid responsibly.
According to officials, applications from 2,174 beneficiaries across Haryana have been approved in the initial phase of PMAY-U 2.0. Among these, 509 beneficiaries are from urban areas in the Karnal district, while 80 are under the jurisdiction of the Karnal Municipal Corporation.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Dass Kabirpanthi, Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, Municipal Commissioner Saloni Sharma, councilors, and other officials attended the event.
