Dehradun Master Plan 2041: Public Consultation Opens

DEHRADUN: A 12-day public consultation for the Dehradun Master Plan 2041 kicked off on Monday. At the initial sector-wise hearing organized by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), residents presented 18 suggestions and objections.

The first consultation, focusing on Sector 1, took place at Shakun Sports Academy in Ajabpur Khurd. Hearings for other sectors will continue until July 21, excluding weekends, from 11 AM to 5 PM, before the draft Master Plan is finalized. An MDDA official mentioned that approximately 50 to 60 individuals attended Monday’s session. “The Master Plan has faced delays, so we aim to complete the consultation promptly,” the official noted.

Addressing attendees, MDDA Vice-Chairperson Banshidhar Tiwari highlighted that the plan would serve as a roadmap for the city’s long-term development. “It has been developed with consideration for the city’s increasing population, unplanned construction, heightened traffic, environmental issues, and rising necessities for infrastructure and public services,” he stated.

The draft outlines proposals for residential expansion, commercial and industrial growth, institutional areas, green belts, road networks, public transport, and urban infrastructure. Tiwari emphasized that public involvement is crucial for ensuring the plan meets the city’s needs and development goals.

Officials mentioned that the suggestions and objections gathered during the consultations would be reviewed by the relevant departments and subjected to technical and legal assessments before being integrated into the final plan, as per existing regulations.

MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia remarked that public feedback would enhance the practicality and effectiveness of the Master Plan. “Officials are stationed in every sector to document suggestions and objections throughout the consultation period,” he added.
