NEW DELHI: Following the launch of the SWAGAM portal by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the regularization of 1,511 unauthorized colonies, officials announced on Friday that 15 residents have applied for ownership rights.
However, no applications have been submitted for house regularization through the portal as of yet.
Officials clarified that the 15 applications received by Wednesday were for ownership rights via the Delhi government’s Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) portal.
“The data on the portal is real-time. We haven’t received any applications for regularization so far,” an official stated.
As per the previous announcement, residents lacking ownership rights under PM-UDAY are expected to receive them within a month. Following this, the MCD will need an additional month to process regularization requests, officials noted.
To promote awareness about the scheme and encourage more residents to apply for ownership rights and regularization, officials have initiated awareness campaigns in unauthorized colonies.
“Starting Thursday, we began making announcements through auto-tippers that collect garbage every morning. A jingle is played in these auto-tippers throughout all unauthorized colonies, urging residents to acquire ownership rights and complete the regularization process,” an official mentioned.
The MCD is also planning to send direct messages to approximately 40,000 residents who previously obtained ownership rights, he added.
“We are organizing awareness camps to guide residents on required documentation, such as property papers, rent agreements, and layout details,” he stated.
The civic body has established physical help desks at all 12 zonal offices and has engaged over 700 architects to assist applicants in filing documents and preparing plans.
“We expect to process thousands of applications in the coming months. The architect will verify the existing structure and upload the plan, which will then be added to the permanent record,” another official remarked.
Officials indicated that a structured timeline has been established for processing applications, including a GIS survey within seven days, correction of deficiencies within 15 days, and the issuance of conveyance deeds within 45 days.
The MCD will not carry out physical verification, as applicant data from the PM-UDAY portal will be automatically integrated into the SWAGAM portal, they further noted.
Additionally, the MCD has received 430 applications from property owners in areas not under PM-UDAY as part of another regularization initiative launched in August 2025.
