VIJAYAWADA: New sanctions under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in Andhra Pradesh have seen a significant decline since 2022-23, with only 515 rural houses approved over the past three financial years. Construction of previously approved houses, however, has continued at a slow pace.
Data presented in the Lok Sabha by the Ministry of Rural Development indicates that Andhra Pradesh received no new PMAY-G house sanctions in 2021-22. The state was assigned 1.78 lakh houses in 2022-23, but approvals plummeted to just 11 in 2023-24 and 504 in 2024-25, with no new sanctions at all in 2025-26.
Despite this decline in new approvals, house construction has progressed using the existing pipeline. Andhra Pradesh completed 2,167 houses in 2022-23, 27,556 in 2023-24, 8,658 in 2024-25, and 5,243 in 2025-26, according to the data. Notably, no houses were completed during 2021-22.
Financial progress under PMAY-G also mirrors the reduction in new allocations. No funds were released to Andhra Pradesh in 2021-22 and 2022-23. In 2023-24, the Centre released Rs 270 crore, but there were no releases in 2024-25, with only Rs 2 crore in 2025-26.
Fund utilization was recorded at Rs 88 crore in 2022-23, Rs 504 crore in 2023-24, Rs 91 crore in 2024-25, and Rs 31 crore in 2025-26.
The Centre informed Parliament that since the launch of PMAY-G, a cumulative target of 4.18 crore rural houses has been assigned to states and Union Territories. Of these, 3.92 crore houses have been sanctioned and 3.10 crore completed as of July 16, 2026. In the past five years alone, 1.99 crore houses were sanctioned, with 1.61 crore completed.
Under PMAY-G, eligible beneficiaries receive Rs 1.20 lakh per house in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly regions, along with additional benefits for toilets, drinking water, electricity, and LPG connections.
