PATNA: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) announced a citywide initiative on Tuesday to incorporate all flats in multi-storey buildings into the property tax system. Apartment secretaries and management committees have been requested to supply detailed information about each flat to enable a precise tax assessment.
Officials emphasized that this initiative seeks to identify properties either not included in the tax net or underreporting their tax obligations. This effort is expected to enhance revenue collection and to establish a comprehensive database of residential properties in the city.
The PMC has devised an action plan across all circles. As part of this initiative, sanitary inspectors will make field visits to physically verify the details of apartments and multi-storey buildings. They will record information such as the number of flats, total floors, and the associated road for each building.
Ward nodal officers will collaborate with apartment secretaries and management committees to ensure that a standardized information form from the PMC headquarters is accurately completed for every flat.
The data collected in the field will be examined by the relevant revenue officers, who will reconcile the information with existing municipal records before finalizing the property tax assessments. Executive officers in each circle will then submit verification reports to the PMC headquarters.
Officials stated that this campaign aims to make the property tax system more transparent and accurate, helping to uncover properties that have been overlooked in past assessments.
PMC anticipates that this initiative will boost property tax revenue, which will be directed towards enhancing civic services and supporting urban infrastructure development in the city.
