LUDHIANA: The state government will allocate financial aid to 144 beneficiaries from economically weaker sections to refurbish their homes through the Rangla Punjab scheme. Each beneficiary, mainly from the Jawahar Nagar camp in Ward 72, will receive Rs 35,000 for roof repairs, amounting to a total expense of Rs 50.4 lakh.
The proposal was recently sanctioned by the finance and contracts committee of the Ludhiana municipal corporation after officials assessed the poor conditions of the homes. Beyond the damaged roofs, inspectors also discovered several houses with broken floors and door frames.
As part of the wider Rangla Punjab initiative, six urban MLAs have received Rs 2.5 crore each for various development projects, including the establishment of libraries, community halls, and public park enhancements.
Sham Lal Gupta, superintending engineer of the building and road branch, confirmed that the civic body has already gathered bank details and photo IDs to expedite payments.
