Navi Mumbai collects ₹434 crore in property tax in Q1 FY27

THANE: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation achieved a record property tax collection of ₹434.02 crore in the first quarter of 2026-27, an increase from ₹372.42 crore collected from 98,478 taxpayers during the same period last year, according to a municipal official on Saturday.

The collection period spanned from April 1 to June 30, with 1,43,329 out of 3,55,772 registered property owners fulfilling their tax obligations.

NMMC Commissioner Kailash Shinde credited this achievement to a technology-driven administration, data analytics, and improved digital payment options. “Our focus on effectively using technology, data analysis, and offering accessible digital facilities has led to this historic realization, which reflects the positive response of the citizens,” Shinde stated.

The civic body’s strategic initiatives also recovered ₹23.67 crore from 15,250 chronic defaulters who had unpaid taxes from previous years. The Ghansoli division saw the highest tax collection, amounting to ₹80 crore.

Analysis of the revenue sources indicated that industrial properties contributed the largest share at 35.79%, followed by residential properties at 31.92%, commercial properties at 22.26%, and mixed/other assets at 10.03%.

Digital transactions became the preferred payment method, representing 72.2% of the total collected tax. A total of 1,03,473 taxpayers made payments amounting to ₹280.71 crore online via QR codes, UPI, net banking, and credit/debit cards. Additionally, ₹144.93 crore was collected via bank transfers, with only 18.85% of taxpayers choosing offline payment methods, according to the officials.

A significant driver of this digital transition was NMMC’s ‘Personalized Payment Link’ initiative, disseminated through SMS and WhatsApp. This enabled 57,397 citizens, or 40.63% of total taxpayers, to settle their dues conveniently from home, generating approximately ₹58 crore in revenue.

Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil remarked that this increase in revenue signifies not only improved financial results but also the growing trust citizens have in the Municipal Corporation, along with their adoption of digital services and a collective effort towards the city’s development.
