Lucknow: LDA to Create 2051 GIS Master Plan for Six Districts

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has been appointed as the nodal agency for developing the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR). It is currently preparing a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Master Plan-2051 for the six districts included in the initiative.

This digital plan will unify land use, water bodies, forests, green belts, and proposed developments over approximately 26,000 sq km into a single platform to enhance planning and monitoring.

The proposed UPSCR will encompass Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, and Rae Bareli. The regional master plan aims to establish a long-term framework for structured growth and coordinated regional development.

Officials stated that the plan will outline land use, settlement patterns, and transportation networks. It will suggest new highways, regional rail links, a mass rapid transit system, freight corridors, logistics parks, and improved last-mile connectivity to rural areas. The plan will also emphasize economic development, physical and social infrastructure, environmental conservation, and governance matters.

The LDA is in the process of identifying key projects in transportation, infrastructure, industry, and tourism to be included in the regional plan. Potential proposals include a Transport Nagar, an orbital rail corridor, the expansion of the Metro network, industrial clusters, logistics parks, food parks, and corridor-based developments along the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.

LDA Vice-Chairperson Prathamesh Kumar noted that the GIS-based Master Plan will act as a roadmap for balanced regional development.
