LUCKNOW: The city is gearing up for significant expansion with the introduction of the state capital region (SCR) project, inspired by Delhi-NCR. A comprehensive 380-page report has been prepared and submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), which will forward it to the state government for approval.
The SCR initiative encompasses six districts—Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Hardoi, and Sitapur—aiming for integrated development that bolsters the capital while ensuring balanced growth in surrounding areas, making it competitive with capital cities across the nation.
LDA officials noted that the scheme draws inspiration from the Delhi-NCR and Mumbai metropolitan region, focusing on a blend of residential, industrial, commercial, and green spaces. A 40-page synopsis will be released by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and a logo for the SCR is being designed through a public competition. Public engagement will be crucial, as the LDA plans to gather suggestions from citizens via an online portal and suggestion boxes.
The goal is to transform Lucknow into a global smart and green city equipped with modern infrastructure, new job opportunities, and an enhanced quality of life.
The plan outlines key priorities, such as expanding the Metro network to neighboring districts, widening highways and ring roads, creating affordable housing initiatives, redeveloping slum areas, enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting solar energy, establishing industrial zones and SEZs, developing skill and startup hubs, implementing smart transport solutions like BRTS and electric buses, and improving water management, including the conservation of the Gomti River.
