Kolhapur to Build 5 Commercial Complexes via PPP

KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) is exploring options to establish five to six large commercial complexes through a public-private partnership (PPP).

KMC chief Rajendra Bharud has tasked all four divisional offices to pinpoint strategic locations for these commercial spaces, aiming to generate revenue through rentals. Priority sites include the city’s Shingoshi Market, Kombdi Bazaar, Chhatrapati Tararani Market Divisional Office, Central bus stand, Water Park-Bawda, and the rickshaw stands in the Central bus stand area.

On Monday evening, Bharud convened a meeting with officials, instructing deputy city engineers from each divisional office to identify key areas in their jurisdictions and propose development strategies.

An anonymous KMC official stated, “Public opposition to increasing property taxes makes it crucial to find alternative revenue sources. Therefore, Bharud has initiated plans to develop municipal lands for income. A consultant panel will be assembled for this initiative in the next eight to ten days.”

The official further explained, “The architecture department will assess the financial feasibility of the project. A preliminary presentation is being prepared, and the project team is working diligently on it.”

Plans for a New Administrative Building

Bharud has also directed city engineers to promptly present plans and cost estimates for a new administrative building at Shenda Park, as the existing facility is deemed inadequate.

During a tour of various departments in the main administrative building on Monday evening, Bharud gathered information on office operations and services provided to citizens from the respective department heads.
