HUBBALLI: Residents of Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) Amargol Phase 2 Colony have submitted a petition to the Taluk Legal Services Authority requesting better amenities in their area.

KHB officials recently filed a report with the urban development department, following a TOI report that shed light on the issues, notably the delay in transferring the colony to the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). The report, titled “Infrastructure Challenges Plaguing Housing Board’s Colonies,” was submitted on January 2, 2024.

Earlier, the KHB had approached the HDMC for the takeover of the colony. After conducting a joint survey of the facilities, HDMC asked KHB to pay ₹11 crore for the handover. However, KHB claimed it could not afford this fee and subsequently contacted higher officials regarding the charges.

Following the residents’ legal action, the court directed KHB officials to pay ₹8 crore to HDMC for the colony’s development, setting a deadline of one month for the payment.

Mrutunjay Matti, a resident of KHB Amargol, expressed gratitude, stating, “We submitted a petition, along with the TOI report, to the court, and we finally received justice. Thank you to the court and TOI. Once the colony is handed over to the corporation, development work such as roads, drainage, drinking water, and streetlights should commence.”

An executive engineer from KHB confirmed that the court has mandated the board to pay ₹8 crore to the corporation within a month. “We received the order last week, and the handover process will begin soon,” he added.
