Kanpur: Father-Son Duo Charged in PMAY Scam Involving 29 Victims

KANPUR: A father-son pair has been accused of defrauding 29 individuals out of ₹7 lakh by promising housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana in the Chakeri police station area. The victims, who did not receive homes or refunds, prompted one to file an FIR following a court order.

According to the complaint lodged by Ashish Kumar from Kopar Ganj, Raipurwa, he works as a laborer and knew Pawan Kumar of Raksha Vihar, Shyam Nagar. Pawan claimed that his father, Dinesh Kumar, was employed at a gun factory and could facilitate jobs at Metro or the factory, along with colony allotments under the scheme.

The complaint states that Ashish and 28 others paid ₹7 lakh to the duo for the promised allotments. After a lengthy wait without any allocation, they approached Pawan and Dinesh, who assured them the houses would be available soon.

However, after further delays, the victims visited Dinesh’s residence on June 25, 2025, where they faced harassment, threats, and were driven away. Frustrated with police inaction, the victims sought court intervention.

Ajay Prakash Mishra, the station in-charge, stated, “An FIR has been filed based on the written complaint, and we will investigate the matter and take appropriate action.”
