JAIPUR: On Wednesday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma laid the foundation for the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project, calling it a significant advancement for urban connectivity in the state capital.
He inaugurated the piling operations at the Sitapura metro depot and reviewed the design of the nearly 41-km-long Phase-2 corridor, according to officials.
Sharma emphasized the necessity of the metro expansion for the growing city, attributing it to the “double-engine government” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Jaipur Metro will serve as the lifeline of the city, enhancing connectivity for its residents,” he stated during his media interaction.
Civil work is set to commence shortly after its virtual foundation laying, with future phases planned as needed.
During his visit, the chief minister took a metro ride from Mansarovar to Chandpole, engaging with passengers and gathering feedback on the services.
Commuters expressed their anticipation for the completion of Phase-2, as reported by officials.
The upcoming Phase-2 corridor will extend from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, connecting essential industrial and residential areas from Sitapura to VKIA.
The project is projected to exceed ₹13,037 crore in costs and will connect major sites including Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, the railway station, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar.
Officials indicated that the corridor will include underground sections, especially near the airport, ensuring smooth integration of the metro system throughout the city.
The initial project package, valued at over ₹918 crore, has already received approval.
Senior ministers, legislators, and top officials attended the event.
