GMDA Notifies Builder Over Drain Blockage in Ramprastha City

GURUGRAM: On Tuesday, GMDA issued a show-cause notice to the Ramprastha City developer in Sector 37D for allegedly constructing an unauthorized access that disrupts the natural flow of the Badshapur stormwater drain, raising concerns ahead of the monsoon season.

If the developer fails to comply or provide an unsatisfactory response, the Authority warned that it will demolish the structure without notice, recover penalty costs, and initiate legal action.

The recently identified structure constitutes a significant violation of drainage regulations and could cause waterlogging, public inconvenience, and damage to public infrastructure during the monsoon, according to the notice.

The Authority classified this action as a breach of development control norms and an unauthorized modification of public drainage infrastructure. It emphasized that the structure obstructs stormwater flow, which is prohibited under existing regulations.

GMDA instructed the developer to reply within seven days, justifying why action should not be taken. The notice states that the structure may be removed or demolished at the developer’s expense, with a possibility of filing an FIR for statutory violations.

The developer has also been asked to submit detailed drawings and justification for the culvert, if applicable, and to seek permission if access is needed. The Authority clarified that even if justified, any culvert will only be constructed through GMDA on a deposit-work basis to ensure proper hydraulic design and prevent stormwater blockage.

Meanwhile, Satbir Singh, general manager of the township’s facility management, stated he was unaware of the notice.

Residents, however, have questioned the timing of this action. “The access has been in place for nearly eight years, even before the township was operational. If it’s unauthorized, why are objections being raised only now? Over 5,000 families living in Atrium, Edge, and View use this access daily, and sudden removal will disrupt movement,” said one resident.

Despite several attempts, the developer has not responded to TOI’s request for comments on the issue.
