GHAZIABAD: The local authorities have issued a guideline urging builders to refrain from employing laborers on construction sites from 12 PM to 4 PM due to the ongoing heatwave conditions.
The labor department has initiated an awareness campaign at construction areas and labor congregation points throughout the district. This effort aims to educate workers on heatwave precautions and provide them with ORS solutions and cold beverages like shikanji.
“As part of our initiative, we have conducted camps at major construction sites in Siddharth Vihar and Wave City, reaching out to at least 20,000 workers. Officials distributed towels, ORS packets, and jaljeera to help them manage the heat. We also ran an outreach program to promote heatwave safety measures and the welfare schemes available for registered construction workers,” stated Anurag Mishra, Ghaziabad’s deputy labor commissioner.
According to official records, over nine lakh workers are registered for building and construction in Ghaziabad.
Mishra also noted that the ban on construction activities between 12 PM and 4 PM is being largely adhered to across sites.
“Many construction sites are now starting work earlier, commencing at 8 AM instead of 10 AM, and continuing from 4 PM to 7 PM, rather than the usual end time of 5 PM,” he mentioned.
At the labor department camps, workers were informed about how to enroll in various welfare schemes available at any jan seva kendra. These schemes offer financial support for childbirth, children’s education, daughters’ marriages, disaster relief, serious health issues, and death-related assistance, among other benefits.
