NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, is finalized and will benefit around four lakh families residing in such areas.
Shah recommended that the Delhi government issue tenders for at least five public-private partnership-based rehabilitation projects each month.
During a review meeting focused on the rehabilitation of slum dwellers in the national capital, he directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to issue tenders for five clusters within 45 days. He also requested the preparation of project documents and tender forms for an additional 50 JJ clusters.
Shah set January 1, 2025, as the eligibility cut-off date for the JJ clusters.
An official statement quoted the Home Minister saying, “The Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, has been finalized today, and the Government of Delhi should notify it at the earliest.”
He emphasized the need for adequate community facilities, including anganwadi centers, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and playgrounds, in the construction of the rehabilitation colonies.
Shah noted that the decisions made in the meeting would significantly benefit four lakh families living in Delhi’s “jhuggi-jhopdi” (JJ) clusters.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other senior ministers and officials.
