NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has called a high-level meeting on Monday to assess the provisions of the long-awaited Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2041, according to officials.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) submitted the draft plan to the Centre in April 2023, but it has yet to receive approval from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Sources indicate that the DDA vice-chairman will present a comprehensive overview of the draft to the chief minister and other senior officials, including heads of departments related to industries, environment, and revenue.

The meeting aims to concentrate on industrial development, with plans for the Delhi government to develop approximately 1,200 acres across three proposed industrial clusters: Kanjhawla, Ranikhera, and Baprola, using a public-private partnership (PPP) model. These clusters are designed to attract service sectors such as IT, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and research, potentially creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in the capital. Officials mentioned that a global consultancy firm may be enlisted to finalize the development strategy.

At a meeting on February 28, 2023, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, who also chairs the DDA, approved the draft MPD-2041, emphasizing that the plan prioritizes inclusive development, sustainability, and innovative approaches, including transit-oriented development hubs, land pooling, heritage and Yamuna rejuvenation, and comprehensive city regeneration.

The first MPD was established in 1962 under the Delhi Development Act, 1957. These master plans are designed for a 20-year outlook and provide a comprehensive framework for the planned growth of the city.
