Allahabad HC Supports Noida Airport Expansion, Emphasizes Rehab

PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad High Court has upheld the land acquisition for the expansion of Noida International Airport in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, rejecting petitions from affected landowners.

The court found that the acquisition process adhered fully to the 2013 land acquisition law, indicating no material irregularities.

A division bench consisting of Justice M C Tripathi and Justice Kunal Ravi Singh, while addressing a collection of writ petitions, stated: “Based on the preceding discussion and the reasons provided, this Court finds no merit in the challenges raised by the petitioners regarding the notifications dated April 11, 2025, and October 24, 2025.”

The court also remarked, “We decline to interfere in the acquisition proceedings, which have been conducted following the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, along with the Rules established in 2016.”

Nonetheless, the bench instructed the authorities to ensure that complete rehabilitation measures are in place before taking possession of residential lands.

In its April 28 ruling, the court cleared petitions from a group of villagers and farmers, including Vijay Pal Singh and others, affirming that the acquisition process complied with the 2013 land acquisition law.

The court highlighted that no material irregularities were found in the process and emphasized adherence to the statutory framework from notification issuance to compensation awarding.

Importantly, the bench noted that while the petitioners did not oppose the acquisition of agricultural land itself, their primary concerns revolved around issues of displacement and rehabilitation.
