Prayagraj to Launch OTS Scheme for Property Tax Defaulters on Aug 15

PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme for outstanding house, water, and sewer tax dues from August 15 to December 15.

Under this state government-approved scheme, property owners can clear their pending dues in three installments by submitting their applications between August 15 and November 14.

Applications must include a 30% deposit of the total outstanding dues as the first installment within one month of applying. The remaining balance can be settled in two further installments. The benefits of the OTS program will be applicable only once the final installment is paid.

This initiative is expected to assist approximately 90,000 property owners in the city, many of whom have overdue payments. Residents and elected officials have advocated for such a scheme for years, citing challenges in settling accumulated dues all at once.

PMC manages over 400,000 properties across its 100 wards, with around 250,000 property owners regularly meeting their tax obligations. However, nearly 90,000 property owners have reportedly not made any house tax payments, accumulating about ₹40-50 crore in dues.

PMC’s chief tax assessment officer, Sanjay Mamgai, stated that the civic body aims to extend the state’s OTS benefits to eligible property owners in Prayagraj. “This scheme will provide relief to defaulters, allowing them to pay their dues in installments while improving tax recovery and increasing revenue for the civic body,” he explained.
