Telangana Selects Singapore Firm for Future City Plan

HYDERABAD: In a significant development for Telangana’s Bharat Future City (BFC), the state government has appointed Singapore-based DP Architects as the consultant to craft the master plan for the Future City Development Authority (FCDA).

After evaluating bids from six firms, DP Architects was selected as the lowest bidder, with the formal contract to be awarded during the inauguration of the BFC office in Meerkhanpet on June 10, according to official sources.

The appointed consultant is expected to finalize the master plan within nine months. The FCDA’s focus will initially be on 30,000 acres out of a total area of nearly 765 square kilometers, prioritizing land use and infrastructure development. Approximately 13,000 acres are earmarked for immediate development, which includes:

  • Life Sciences Hub: 4,000 acres
  • Electric Vehicle and Energy Park: 1,976 acres
  • Electronics and Advanced Manufacturing Zone: 2,177 acres
  • Residential Zone: 2,477 acres
  • Data Centre Hub: 313 acres
  • Education and University Zone: 255 acres
  • AI City: 403 acres
  • Health City: 594 acres

Preliminary plans also foresee the establishment of an entertainment zone, furniture park, and sports hub, according to officials.

A senior FCDA official highlighted the necessity for a master plan, noting that the authority operates between two major planning frameworks.

“The northern section of the FCDA area is governed by the HMDA master plan for 2031, creating a regional structure of corridors and transport networks. The central part, hosting the Hyderabad Pharma City, is being developed as a leading industrial hub focused on sectors like life sciences and electronics. Meanwhile, the southern region remains largely rural without an established land-use plan,” the official explained.

Without a statutory framework, there are concerns about uncoordinated growth, overlap of jurisdictions, and ecological issues. The master plan aims to bridge HMDA’s metropolitan framework with specialized industrial sectors, defining a clear path for urban development in the FCDA area.
