MAPUSA: In anticipation of the monsoon season, a thorough re-inspection led by Bardez Deputy Collector Varsha Parab has uncovered 49 buildings within Mapusa municipal limits that are deemed structurally unsafe.
The inspection, mandated by the North Goa District Collector, aimed to evaluate structural integrity and avoid possible collapses or accidents during heavy rainfall.
The identified structures consist of 42 private buildings and seven government properties. Officials from the Mapusa Municipal Council’s building department and the Public Works Department (PWD) conducted assessments to gauge their stability.
Following the inspection, authorities have put in place strict safety measures. The Mapusa Municipal Council is set to issue new vacation notices to the owners and occupants of the 42 compromised private buildings.
Occupants of buildings that remain occupied or in use are being instructed to vacate immediately. Owners of unoccupied but unstable structures have been directed to implement critical safety measures or carry out necessary structural repairs.
