NAGPUR: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed the Assembly on Friday that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) housing project at Wathoda has been equipped with all necessary infrastructure in accordance with the approved development plan. He dismissed claims regarding missing amenities, poor construction, and increasing crime in the area.

The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) completed 3,580 housing units under the scheme by November 13, 2021, Shinde stated. Of these, 264 units are located in Mauza Wathoda and 3,316 in Mauza Tarodi (Khurd). Basic amenities and maintenance are being handled by registered cooperative societies of the allottees for both projects, he added.

Several MLAs alleged that as of April 2026, approximately 2,300 families residing in the colony still lacked adequate roads, water supply, sewage systems, and a health center. They also expressed concerns about the absence of mobile network coverage, poor drainage, and inadequate sewage systems, which have caused significant hardship for residents.

Moreover, the MLAs claimed that drug trafficking and anti-social activities have surged in the colony, fostering an environment of fear among women. In response, Shinde noted that only one gambling case was reported at the Wathoda police station in 2025, with actions taken against the involved individuals. No illegal activities have been reported in the colony for 2026, he added.

Addressing concerns about poor construction quality leading to leaks and cracks, Shinde assured that all work was completed in line with government standards and tender specifications.

The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) in Nagpur conducted third-party technical inspections, confirming that all construction adhered to quality standards and regulations, the Deputy CM stated.
