HYDERABAD: Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy announced on Wednesday that the Centre is generally agreeable to participating in the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project, sharing costs with the state government on a 50:50 basis.
During a review of key development projects in Hyderabad with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal in Delhi, Reddy was informed by Lal that the Centre would consider the state government’s proposal for the 162-km second phase positively.
Lal also mentioned that a final decision would be made once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and other technical details are received from the state government. He assured Reddy that the Centre is committed to collaborating with the state to enhance infrastructure and basic amenities in Hyderabad.
Furthermore, Reddy was informed that the Centre has approved 39 sewage treatment plants (STPs) aimed at cleaning the Musi River, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT) scheme, with a budget of ₹3,975 crore.
According to a PIB release, this initiative, launched in 2021, aims to ensure functional tap water connections for all households in statutory towns nationwide and provides sewerage/septage management coverage in 500 cities under the first phase of AMRUT.
