LUCKNOW: A proposal from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to simplify mutation charges for the transfer and sale of residential and commercial properties aims to provide relief to owners. This proposal will be discussed in the LMC House meeting on Wednesday.
Currently, mutation fees are set at high flat rates, typically around Rs 5,000 or 1% of the property value, particularly for ancestral property transfers. The existing system lacks clarity regarding the connection between mutation charges and property size or value.
The new proposal suggests a straightforward slab-based structure. For property sales, charges will be determined by the property’s value, while for ancestral transfers, the fee will be capped at Rs 5,000 based on property size.
Officials believe this change will enhance transparency, simplify the process, minimize disputes, and accelerate operations.
The proposal will also establish fixed charges for private establishments like hospitals, guest houses, restaurants, and diagnostic centers, aiming for uniformity, as no charges have previously been set for these properties.
