VIJAYAWADA: P Narayana, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, has confirmed that all projects in Amaravati are on track. He rejected opposition criticism regarding the capital city development, stating that comparisons between the costs of iconic structures and regular buildings were designed to mislead the public.
During a review meeting on Wednesday, Narayana assessed the progress of Amaravati’s construction with representatives from contracting firms and senior officials. He expressed optimism that the first project phase would finalize on time. The discussion included updates on government buildings, road networks, and land pooling scheme layouts currently under development. The minister requested project-specific updates from contractors regarding work completion, outstanding tasks, and strategies to meet construction timelines.
After the review, Narayana emphasized that no political intrigue or campaign would hinder the capital’s development, affirming that the first phase would be completed by 2027. He noted that even within the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), there was skepticism about Jagan Mohan Reddy’s intention to use “Mavigan versus Amaravati” as an election narrative. Narayana commented that the public is no longer swayed by such political tactics, joking about the meaning of “Mavigan.”
He highlighted the state government’s plan to consolidate major administrative departments in Amaravati, aimed at improving governance and public services. He claimed that the criticism arose from a lack of understanding regarding the project. Emphasizing Amaravati’s infrastructure planning, Narayana mentioned that the city is being constructed with a comprehensive underground utility network to promote a clean and mosquito-free urban ambiance. These integrated systems are designed to enhance long-term civic management and improve residents’ quality of life.
Regarding important infrastructure updates, Narayana stated that the MLA quarters have been completed. He added that the MLC towers and All India Service (AIS) officers’ towers are expected to be finalized by the end of the month. The completed structures will be handed over to the General Administration Department (GAD) for appropriate allocation. He reiterated that all major construction activities in Amaravati are progressing as planned.
