NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced its intention to re-acquire 123 land parcels in various south Delhi villages, following recent Supreme Court directives related to multiple land acquisition cases. Officials indicated that this measure aims to prevent buyers from inadvertently purchasing land that is currently under legal dispute.

The public notice, issued by the DDA’s land management department, specifies that this re-acquisition process adheres to Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

According to the notice, “The Supreme Court has issued judgments in various batches of land acquisition cases, particularly concerning the application of Section 24(2) of the Act in matters involving the DDA, and other cases decided after May 17, 2024.” It added, “In light of these rulings, the competent authority has reviewed the cases and recommended the re-acquisition of 123 parcels, while opting not to proceed with 25 cases.”

The DDA has made the case details accessible via its official website. The affected villages include Palam, Lado Sarai, Jasola, Neb Sarai, Maidan Garhi, Chattarpur, Satbari, Mehrauli, Tughlakabad, Kilokri, Najafgarh, Tikri Kalan, Prahladpur Bangar, Samaypur, Mahipalpur, Pitampura, Naraina, Karala, and Begumpur, among others.

Originally, these parcels were acquired by the DDA in 1980 for planned development across 13 villages. Compensation was paid at that time, but multiple landowners challenged the acquisition, leading to extended litigation. The Supreme Court later ruled that the DDA may re-acquire land if deemed necessary for public purposes.

In accordance with the court’s orders, the DDA will move forward with the re-acquisition of these 123 parcels, which are essential for ongoing and future development initiatives. A DDA official noted, “For public convenience, we’ve provided village-specific details, including khasra numbers and case disposal dates.”

The authority has also advised citizens against participating in any land transactions involving these parcels. “These lands are under DDA’s ownership and re-acquisition proceedings. We advise individuals not to engage in any sale or purchase agreements,” the official warned.
