LUDHIANA: The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has ramped up its efforts against unauthorized urban expansion by demolishing three illegal colonies in Manakwal and Mehmoodpura on Wednesday.
This action was taken in accordance with a “zero-tolerance” policy set by Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar. Their goal is to halt the proliferation of unauthorized settlements that do not comply with state regulations for safety and infrastructure.
GLADA’s regulatory team acted after developers reportedly disregarded several legal notices to cease construction. In a departure from previous operations which faced local opposition, this demolition was conducted without incident. GLADA has initiated legal proceedings and recommended filing FIRs against the responsible developers.
The ‘Affordable Plot’ Pitfall
Officials cautioned that these unauthorized colonies are often marketed at lower prices to unsuspecting buyers but lack necessary legal approvals, making them a risky investment. Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar strongly advised the public that the state will not support those who invest in these illegal developments. “GLADA will not provide essential services such as water, sewerage, or electricity to properties in unauthorized areas,” he stated.
To safeguard against deception, potential buyers are advised to verify properties through the official GLADA website (www.glada.gov.in). The site contains a detailed list of approved and regularized colonies, along with sanctioned layout maps for each acknowledged project.
