UJJAIN: On Wednesday, the Ujjain Development Authority, supported by an administrative team and the municipal corporation, successfully demolished 12 illegal houses across three plots in the Begambagh area, near the Neelkanth Gate of Mahakal Temple.
The properties, owned by the Ujjain Development Authority, were leased for residential use for a period of 30 years. CEO Sandeep Kumar Soni explained, “This action follows the dismissal of the stay by the honorable courts. Although these plots were allocated for residential purposes, they were being used commercially. Moreover, the lease has expired and could not be renewed, prompting this demolition.”
The operation commenced in the morning and unfolded without any protests, contrasting with earlier demolitions in the area. In the last four months, 26 buildings were taken down in similar operations, which faced opposition, but Wednesday’s drive proceeded smoothly.
More than 100 police officers and around 100 administrative staff were deployed for the operation.
The demolished structures were situated on Development Authority plot numbers 26, 48, and 63, all of which contained the illegal constructions.
Originally in 1985, Ujjain Development Authority had allotted approximately 28 plots in the Begambagh region, each spanning 2,400 square feet, under a strict 30-year residential lease agreement.
