Signature View Apartments asks 91 families to leave flats

NEW DELHI: The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Signature View Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar is urging the remaining 91 families to vacate their flats promptly to enable the demolition and reconstruction of the complex.

According to RWA president Amrendra Kumar Rakesh, most residents have already moved out, and efforts are being made to clear the remaining units.

“We are requesting the remaining residents to vacate their homes at the earliest possible to expedite the floor area ratio (FAR) clearance process,” Rakesh stated.

Despite this, the RWA noted that some residents are hesitant to leave due to worries about the FAR impacts and the future allocation of the reconstructed flats.

Rakesh highlighted that many residents fear that the revised FAR might alter the size and layout of their new homes following the rebuilding.

He added, “The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is tasked with the reconstruction of the apartment complex and aims to build approximately 168 additional flats utilizing the revised FAR.”

The Signature View Apartments encompasses 336 flats across 12 blocks and was established under a DDA housing scheme initiated in 2010, consisting of 224 higher income group (HIG) flats and 112 middle-income group (MIG) flats.

However, shortly after possession began in 2012, residents reported structural problems, including falling plaster from exterior walls and cracking in several pillars, raising safety concerns.

Recently, the Supreme Court declined to consider a petition challenging a Delhi High Court order that refused to stay the demolition of the apartment complex.

The petition, reviewed by Justices Sanjay Kumar and Alok Aradhe, sought to suspend the high court’s interim order of September 17, permitting the DDA to continue with the demolition.

The high court instructed the DDA to establish a camp office within two days inside the complex to assist residents with the necessary paperwork for vacating and handing over their flats.

While allowing the demolition to proceed, the court emphasized that the DDA must minimize inconvenience to residents, who have been given until October 12 to vacate their flats, noting any stay beyond this date would be at their own risk.

In December 2024, the Delhi High Court affirmed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)’s order declaring the structures unsafe, permitting the DDA to demolish and rebuild the complex.

A senior official from the MCD reported that both the DDA and MCD are collaboratively working on vacating and demolishing Signature View Apartments.
