GURUGRAM: DS Dhesi, the principal advisor for urban development in Haryana, has instructed officials to inspect sewage treatment plants (STPs) in residential areas from sectors 82 to 115. This decision comes after multiple complaints regarding treated wastewater being discharged into vacant land and the Badshapur leg 3 drain.
Dhesi emphasized the seriousness of this environmental issue, stating that stringent measures would be taken against offenders. “Reports indicate that some societies between Sectors 82-115 are releasing untreated water from their STPs into vacant plots and the Badshapur leg 3 drain, which poses a significant risk to the environment,” he stated.
He has asked the district town planner (planning) to inspect all residential societies in these sectors and provide a report to the Pollution Control Board, detailing the operational status of their STPs and the treatment of waste.
GMDA officials mentioned that land clearance is in progress for a new STP at Daulatabad, which will be constructed on 49.9 acres acquired from MCG. Once operational, this facility is expected to manage sewage from Sectors 81 to 115.
Dhesi also urged civic bodies to ramp up the ongoing anti-encroachment initiative and ensure the removal of illegal structures from green spaces, footpaths, and utility areas governed by GMDA. Officials reported that coordinated efforts by GMDA, MCG, and HSVP, with police support over the past four months, have successfully cleared approximately 150 acres of public land, including 60 acres along SPR.
He instructed the departments to conduct regular monitoring to prevent re-encroachments and guarantee that cleared areas remain accessible to the public.
