NOIDA: The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) on Monday urged the Noida Authority CEO to regularize unauthorized extensions in residential homes, including rear balconies and ground floor covers. They suggested imposing penalties if necessary and sent a letter to CEO Lokesh M.

The federation emphasized that open rear balconies and ground floors pose security risks, and therefore allowing extension covers with applicable fees would be beneficial. This initiative could also help accommodate growing families, as not everyone can afford larger homes.

“Today, we wrote to the CEO of the Authority, Lokesh M, requesting the regularization of unauthorized extensions in residential properties by imposing a penalty or fee if needed,” stated KK Jain, FONRWA Secretary General.

Yogendra Sharma, FONRWA President, noted that many residents have undertaken construction to create additional space for security by covering balconies or building walls. He mentioned that the rising cost of housing in the city has prompted this demand, as families struggle to find spacious housing. “With the lack of new affordable housing projects in recent years, residents are left with no choice but to make small extensions within their limited living spaces,” Sharma explained.

Jain further mentioned that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other state housing boards have previously initiated similar programs to regularize unauthorized constructions upon payment of specified penalties and fees.
