Residents protest waterlogging, incomplete amenities in Zirakpur

MOHALI: Residents of Aura Homes near Nabha Sahib organized a protest on Friday due to ongoing issues with waterlogging, seepage in their flats, and insufficient civic infrastructure. They claim the builder abandoned the project after selling most units.

Waving placards and chanting slogans, residents pointed out that several promised amenities—including a clubhouse, park, gated entrance, boundary wall, effective sewerage system, sewage treatment plant (STP), rainwater harvesting system, and paved internal roads—remain unfulfilled despite multiple assurances.

Resident Sahil mentioned that even light rainfall results in significant waterlogging in the community, highlighting the absence of a reliable drainage system. Water collects in common areas, lift lobbies, and internal roads, while seepage in flats has been particularly difficult for families with children, seniors, and women.

Another resident, Shaili, expressed concerns about the lack of a proper boundary wall and functioning gated entry, raising security issues. She noted that, despite the builder’s claims that rainwater harvesting and other infrastructure projects were complete, no verified plans or supporting documentation have been provided to residents, even after numerous requests.

Residents reported receiving promises for nearly three years without tangible improvements. They called on the district administration and relevant departments to investigate the situation, validate the builder’s assertions, and ensure the completion of all pledged amenities.

The protesters warned they would escalate their actions if the authorities did not take timely action. Participating in the protest were Shaili, Vimal, Rakhi, Navneet, Harvinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Ramesh Kumar.

In response to the allegations, builder Aman Sood stated that approximately 90% of the project has been sold, with nearly half of the flats occupied. He attributed the recent waterlogging to heavy rainfall in the Zirakpur area and clarified that the issue is not unique to Aura Homes.

Sood confirmed that the clubhouse is under construction and suggested that some residents are protesting for personal motives. Nonetheless, he assured that the company remains dedicated to addressing the residents’ concerns.
