Rent Compensation for Residents to Be Finalized by Month-End

NEW DELHI: The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Signature View Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar announced on Thursday that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has guaranteed that rent compensation for all residents will be disbursed by the end of this month.

The DDA issued an e-tender in March to demolish the Signature View Apartments, which consists of a 336-flat complex declared structurally unsafe. Developed in the mid-2000s under a DDA housing scheme, the apartments have suffered significant structural deterioration, including serious cracks in walls and ceilings, raising safety alarms.

Amrendra Singh Rakesh, president of the RWA, informed PTI that residents have been persistently following up with the DDA. “We were told that all rent dues would be cleared by the end of July,” he stated. However, there has been no immediate response from the DDA.

Rakesh noted that residents who have yet to vacate are awaiting the rent payments. “Once those who have already left receive their compensation, the remaining residents will start vacating as well,” he added. Furthermore, he mentioned that no new notices have been issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) or the DDA.

“We anticipate that by the end of this month, all remaining residents will vacate the premises,” he remarked. Rakesh previously stated that 111 families had already relocated, with many awaiting the promised rental assistance. He indicated that residents in three-bedroom units were offered Rs 50,000 per month, while those in two-bedroom apartments were promised Rs 38,000.

The Delhi High Court had instructed the DDA in December to ensure the flats were vacated within three months and to provide immediate rent support.
