JAIPUR: In a significant development, thousands of families residing in 86 colonies across Sanganer and Bagru have threatened to boycott the upcoming local body elections unless their long-standing request for land titles is addressed. This ultimatum came during a meeting on Monday organized by the Niyaman Hetu Sangharsh Samiti.
The committee revealed that these colonies, founded 40 to 50 years ago through government-registered housing cooperative societies, currently house around 25,000 to 30,000 families. While the areas boast basic infrastructure such as roads, sewer lines, electricity, and water supply from Bisalpur, residents have yet to receive land titles from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which claims these properties are not under its jurisdiction.
Residents voiced their frustration over the lack of response from both elected officials and the state government. They feel their concerns have been ignored in ongoing legal discussions. The committee announced that if a constructive decision is not made by July 27, they will organize a mahapanchayat to escalate their movement.
Additionally, the committee mentioned that the Rajasthan Housing Board had issued no-objection certificates (NOCs) for 26 out of the 86 colonies two to three years ago, but land titles remain ungranted. In some cases, land has already been transferred to the JDA, yet the issue remains unresolved.
The committee also highlighted that a government order for regularization issued in March 2025 was challenged in the Rajasthan High Court by an organization called Public Against Corruption. They argued that they were not included in the case, preventing them from presenting their viewpoint in court. Furthermore, they accused government and JDA officials of using the pending court case as a pretext for further delays.
Raghunandan Singh Hada, president of the Niyaman Hetu Sangharsh Samiti, stated, “If our demands are not met, residents from all 86 colonies will boycott the upcoming local body elections. Political leaders approach us for votes, but no one takes the initiative to resolve our issues.”
Efforts to reach Surya Kant Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of JDA Zone-9, for comments were unsuccessful.
