Prayagraj’s Urban Plan to Add 200 New Villages

PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has unveiled a plan for urban expansion in Sangam city. This initiative aims to boost revenue from house tax, property tax, and development fees, ultimately enhancing the income of both the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the PDA for city development purposes.

According to the proposal, the urban boundary of Prayagraj will increase to 263 square kilometers, incorporating around 200 additional villages in the district under PDA jurisdiction. This proposal is pending approval from the state government.

A senior official from the PDA stated, “The need for city expansion has been recognized for a long time. Hence, the PDA has submitted this proposal for government approval. The addition of these 200 new villages will extend the PDA’s boundaries to include a total of 839 villages.”

Currently covering 1,015 square kilometers, the PDA’s area will reach 1,278 square kilometers with the new villages included.

The expansion plan encompasses 200 villages from five tehsils: Sadar, Phulpur, Karchana, and Soraon. Soraon will contribute the largest number with 166 villages, followed by Phulpur with 20 and Karchana with 3. Notable villages in the Sadar tehsil include Harirampur, Janaka, Govindpur, Lokipur, Igua (Kathgaon), Chandrasen, Phulwa, and Ujihni, bringing the PDA’s boundary closer to the Ganga Expressway.
