PRAYAGRAJ: In a significant step towards enhancing the taxation process for local residents, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to roll out a unified billing system. This new system will merge property tax, water tax, and sewer tax into a single bill.
The implementation of this system is projected to occur within the next week, after the successful completion of the software’s final testing phase.
PK Mishra, the chief tax assessment officer, indicated that all necessary data from the municipal and water departments has been integrated, with essential updates made to the corporation’s official website and mobile app.
This combined billing initiative adheres to state government recommendations aimed at enhancing efficiency and minimizing administrative costs.
Previously, property tax bills were issued in April, while water and sewer tax bills were handled separately by the Jal Kal department. In order to implement the new system, the distribution of paper bills was temporarily halted. Digital notifications were sent to property owners regarding their tax obligations, but printed bills were retained until the unified system was operational.
The new software, now in its testing phase, is designed to create a physical bill that consolidates all three taxes. A notable advantage of this system is the reduced manpower needed for bill distribution; only one delivery person will be required for the combined bill instead of separate deliveries for each tax.
Additionally, residents will have flexible payment options. The unified bill will enable citizens to choose between paying all three taxes together or separately. For online transactions, a special ‘both’ option will be available on the digital platform, simplifying the payment process for users.
Mishra assured residents that those who have already paid any of the taxes will not incur double charges, as their payments have been properly recorded. “This unified billing initiative aligns with PMC’s broader objective to enhance transparency, citizen engagement, and operational efficiency,” he noted. Residents are encouraged to check the official website and app of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation regularly for further updates.
