Prayagraj to Establish Project Unit for Efficient Urban Development

PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is preparing to set up a project management unit (PMU) tasked with developing structured and technically sound plans for the ongoing and future residential projects. This initiative aims to integrate essential infrastructure—such as sewer lines, roads, and drinking water pipelines—right from the planning stages.

Following the successful models implemented in cities like Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Agra, and Kanpur, the PMU will include professionals with strong backgrounds in civil engineering and urban planning.

The authority plans to issue a tender to appoint the PMU for an initial one-year term, with the process expected to commence in the next financial year. Officials note that many development projects currently face delays or necessitate redesigning due to a lack of integrated planning, which the PMU aims to resolve.

PDA officials indicate that the expert team will evaluate suitable locations for new housing schemes while liaising with landowners and farmers on land-related issues linked to residential development. The unit will also ensure quality control during construction and address feedback and concerns raised by various departments and agencies throughout project execution.

Currently, residential schemes are being developed at four different locations in the city. The involvement of the PMU is expected to standardize planning and execution across these projects. By adopting a professional project management approach, the authority aims to expedite development efforts, reduce technical lapses, and provide better-planned housing infrastructure that meets the city’s growing urban demands.
