PRAYAGRAJ: If you’re a homeowner in the city and your ‘Khasra’ (land record) hasn’t been created, there’s no need to be concerned. The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation plans to initiate the preparation of a new ‘Khasra’ for both new and existing buildings soon. The process is expected to begin within six months; the last update was made around 23 years ago.
The absence of a new Khasra has led to significant discrepancies in house tax. To address these issues and boost the municipal income, a comprehensive new Khasra for building properties will be established. An agency will first conduct a door-to-door survey to gather updated information about the size and usage of the buildings. The new Khasra is slated to commence in January 2026.
By preparing the new Khasra, not only will house tax discrepancies be resolved, but detailed information on new properties will be accurately recorded by the Municipal Corporation. Currently, there are 2.36 lakh building properties recorded in the outdated documents from 80 wards of the corporation. While some properties have expanded, the tax assessments remain based on the old records. The upcoming Khasra preparations aim to rectify these inconsistencies.
“The Municipal Corporation updates the Khasra periodically, but the last preparation occurred 23 years ago. We are now planning the creation of a new Khasra for building properties. If everything proceeds as intended, we expect to complete this by next year,” stated PK Mishra, Chief Tax Assessment Officer of the PMC.
