PATNA: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has granted approximately Rs 40 lakh in tax relief to 35,948 property owners who took advantage of the early-payment incentive scheme from April 1 to May 7, 2026.
According to the Bihar Municipal Property Tax Rules, 2013, the civic authority is offering a 5% discount on the principal tax amount for lump-sum payments made in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. This rebate will be available until June 30.
During the initial five weeks of this scheme, the corporation collected nearly Rs 11 crore in property tax. Data from PMC reveals that around 60% of taxpayers utilized online platforms like the municipal portal and UPI apps for their payments.
Among the various zones, the Patliputra zone achieved the highest collection, generating over Rs 3 crore from 10,264 properties, followed by the Kankarbagh and Nutan Rajdhani zones.
To motivate more taxpayers to settle their dues before the deadline, PMC has extended its collection hours to daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. The civic body has also initiated door-to-door awareness campaigns and sent SMS alerts to major defaulters.
Officials emphasized the importance of this initiative, as collections during the same period last year amounted to approximately Rs 13 crore from nearly 47,000 properties, indicating a decline this year.
PMC has made it clear that the 5% rebate will expire after the first quarter, with no discounts available for payments made between July and September.
From October onwards, property owners who fail to pay their taxes will be categorized as defaulters and charged a monthly interest rate of 1.5% on overdue principal tax amounts.
