NEW DELHI: Four new greenfield cities, dubbed ‘Namo Cities,’ will be established as part of the Regional Plan 2041 for the National Capital Region (NCR) to foster balanced regional development.
The decision was made during a meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB), chaired by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal.
According to the Regional Plan 2041, the NCR is projected to become increasingly urbanized, with the urban population estimated to reach approximately 57% by 2031 and around 67% by 2041.
“During the meeting, it was agreed to develop four greenfield cities, which will be known as ‘Namo Cities,'” Lal stated to reporters.
To fund these developments, Rs 5,000 crore will be allocated. State governments will submit their proposals, and the four cities will be chosen through a competitive process, he explained.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and the urban development ministers of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were also present at the meeting.
The draft plan discussed outlines a comprehensive strategy aimed at decentralized urban growth by establishing new economic and residential hubs across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
