NAGPUR: In a significant move against property tax defaulters, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) initiated property auctions and asset seizures in the Lakadganj and Laxmi Nagar zones to recover unpaid dues.
In Lakadganj Zone (Ward 08), a public auction on Friday featured 19 properties in Mauja Pardi and Mauja Nagpur. During the event, five property owners settled their dues with a total of Rs10.45 lakh, while another five properties valued at Rs1.66 crore were successfully auctioned. Nine properties are still pending, and owners have until October 10, 2025, to make payments; otherwise, the NMC will auction them under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act of 1949.
Meanwhile, in Laxmi Nagar Zone (Ward 01), NMC has attached the movable and immovable assets of M/s Premier Technology Pvt Ltd, which owes taxes from 2023 to 2025, summing up to Rs13.54 lakh in total outstanding dues.
The operation was led by Naresh Kelzarkar and tax officials Gautam Meshram, Narendra Jambhulkar, Purushottam Bhadang, Amol Katekar, and Rahul Gedam. The NMC cautioned defaulters that non-compliance could result in government orders being issued under Section 45(1) of the Municipal Act. The corporation urges all remaining taxpayers to clear their dues promptly to prevent further action.
These actions highlight NMC’s commitment to uphold property tax compliance and send a firm warning to defaulters throughout the city.
