Minister hands land documents to 120 Ernakulam families

KOCHI: M B Rajesh, the local self-government minister, emphasized that self-governing bodies should initiate projects that fulfill the aspirations of families. His remarks came during the inauguration of land document distribution for 120 landless families, part of the Ernakulam district panchayat’s annual plan for 2025-26 under the LIFE project, held on Monday.

The various initiatives implemented by the district panchayat are greatly beneficial to the community. The decision to procure land for the landless is a promising step. The minister also noted that this initiative would reinforce the LIFE project. During the event, outgoing district collector NSK Umesh, who is transitioning to the role of director of public education, was honored.

“The LIFE housing project serves as a model for housing schemes across the nation. This year, we plan to allocate 100,000 homes under the project, marking the largest allocation to date,” he stated, highlighting that 2025 is significant for the LIFE project. He also mentioned that land has been identified for individuals on the ultra-poor list.

The district panchayat allocated Rs 2.4 crore to acquire land for those classified as landless, including both general and scheduled caste categories, under the LIFE project. In the previous financial year, land was also purchased for 93 landless families as part of this initiative.
