MHA Urges Chandigarh Admin for Response on Property Issues

CHANDIGARH: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has once again reached out to the Chandigarh administration regarding unresolved property issues, following a lack of response. In its recent communication, the MHA referenced a letter from Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari, highlighting five critical matters concerning the administration.

The MHA’s letter states, “The requisite information is still awaited. Therefore, we kindly request your comments on the following major issues facing the Chandigarh administration.” The Times of India was the first to report on this communication. The ministry is seeking updates and views on several “major issues.”

The identified issues include: property sale shares, necessary adjustments in the housing sector by the Chandigarh Housing Board, the abolition of the lal dora concept in 22 villages now part of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, and property rights for residents in various resettlement colonies across Chandigarh. Additionally, the MHA is seeking responses on longstanding issues involving various group and cooperative housing societies.

Tewari commented on the MHA’s letter, stating, “After extensive follow-up with the Union Home Minister and consistently raising these concerns in Parliament over the past 14 months, I am pleased to see the Union Home Ministry has officially requested a response from the Chandigarh Chief Secretary addressing the issues I have been advocating for. I hope the Chandigarh administration provides constructive solutions rather than reasons for inaction.”
