Land Pooling Approval Boosts Haryana’s Urban Expansion Plan

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has made significant changes to its land pooling policy, paving the way for large-scale urban development across 1.67 lakh acres. This strategic move aims to create new residential, institutional, industrial, and commercial hubs in the state as government agencies prepare to offer plots at competitive prices amidst rising land scarcity for public projects.

Land availability has become a critical issue for various government initiatives. To address this, the updated policy was approved in a multi-departmental meeting held on Wednesday. This marks the official launch of the ambitious plan to develop 69 sectors and urban estates in both existing and new growth areas.

The initial phase is already underway, with the government acquiring approximately 40,000 acres across 13 districts. The revenue and disaster management department is spearheading the acquisition process, which involves farmers from 104 villages. Key cities included in this phase are Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, Hisar, Panipat, Sirsa, and Yamunanagar.

Preliminary plans indicate that development will focus on Gurugram sectors 76–80, 82A–86, and 99A–104, as well as the Pataudi–Farukhnagar region. Near Chandigarh, projects are slated for Pinjore–Kalka, Panchkula Extension, and Raipur Rani. Additionally, seven new sectors (27, 28, 36, 40, 40A, 41A, and 42) are proposed for the Ambala cantonment area.

Details regarding the allotment process and timelines for specific schemes will be finalized later, particularly in regions where private developers have already established residential colonies.

The broader expansion plan prioritizes modern amenities, requiring building codes that include electric vehicle charging points in every sector. Each development will feature essential infrastructure such as electricity, water supply, sewerage, and modern roads designed to contemporary standards.

Urban local bodies minister Vipul Goel stated that the expansion initiative would significantly enhance employment and investment opportunities throughout Haryana. Officials have also taken environmental factors into account, planning for green belts and parks within each sector, along with improved connectivity and infrastructure to encourage industrial model townships.

This initiative aligns with the state’s earlier commitment to fostering cluster-based cities for industrial and business growth, setting the stage for extensive urbanization.
