BENGALURU: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar assured residents gathered outside his home that the state government would implement legal measures to address their concerns, including issues related to property registration and civic matters.
Shivakumar emphasized the challenges many face regarding property ownership, stating that purchasing an apartment should automatically confer rightful ownership. He noted that numerous residents struggle with property registration.
“Through the Bhu Guarantee initiative, we will ensure your property is transferred to your name,” he added. This scheme, part of the Karnataka government’s sixth guarantee, aims to secure digital property rights, simplify land ownership, and streamline property documentation.
The Chief Minister also cautioned builders and developers against non-compliance with regulations. “It is unacceptable for builders to disregard the law. I want to be clear: no one should violate these rules,” he stated.
Engaging with residents, Shivakumar mentioned that the government plans to introduce a Bill in the upcoming Assembly session to protect the interests of apartment owners. “I will present this Bill at the Assembly session starting on August 6. Prior to that, I will hold discussions with political leaders and legislators to gather their views. Constructive suggestions will be welcome as I aim to make inclusive decisions,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister asserted that the proposed legislation is designed to tackle longstanding issues faced by apartment residents and invited feedback from stakeholders. “This Bill is for the benefit of apartment residents. Let’s collaborate as Team Karnataka. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome,” he urged.
On civic issues, Shivakumar stated that the government is taking steps to enhance Bengaluru’s drinking water supply, allowing consumers with outstanding water bills to settle them in installments. He reported a budget of Rs 4,000 crore for filling potholes and emphasized the need for underground utility cables, expressing frustration over agencies not adhering to tax payments or cable relocations.
Addressing garbage management concerns, Shivakumar stated that the government has not yet issued a tender for waste management and dismissed claims of any wrongdoing.
Advocating for strategic urban development, the Chief Minister called for more high-rise buildings and fewer small residential plots while reiterating the government’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by apartment owners through legal frameworks.
