JAIPUR: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the owner of a dangerously tilted five-storey building located on Jagganath Shah ka Rasta in Ramganj. A recent technical assessment has deemed the structure unsafe, prompting this action.
Residents have expressed distress as the building has become increasingly unstable in the past few days. According to Bijendra Singh, deputy commissioner of JMC’s Kishanpole zone, the technical team submitted a report that led to this urgent notice being affixed at the site, instructing the owner to conduct a safe demolition.
Authorities have cautioned that failure to demolish the building within the specified timeframe will result in the municipal corporation taking action and charging the owner for the costs incurred. Additionally, the notice stipulates that any resulting damage to life or property due to delays will be the owner’s liability.
In the interest of public safety, several nearby homes have been evacuated, and access around the structure is restricted. Home guards and police personnel have been deployed to monitor the area.
Residents have voiced their fears for days and have continuously called for action against the deteriorating building. Protests erupted outside the Kishanpole zone office earlier this week, with locals accusing the administration of inaction despite numerous complaints.
The situation has also impacted local businesses, with several shops in the vicinity forced to close for safety reasons. Shopkeepers report significant losses in daily income due to the disruptions in regular business activities.
